FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is live wedding painting?
Jp from Art of JP Lane adds to the ambiance and entertainment of the wedding by painting onsite, while giving the bride and groom a family heirloom that will last for decades. For many new couples, the wedding is a blur of activity. Having a painting of your special moment in your home reminds you of that day long after the event is finished. For wedding guests, a live wedding painter adds a level of intrigue and class to the event.
How does the booking and timing work?
After submitting your information, JP will set up a video call with you. A 25% non-refundable Retainer Deposit is required to lock in your booking.
The Lead Up: JP will be in contact as the wedding gets closer and the final 75% payment will be due 2 weeks prior to the event.
The Big Day: JP will arrive a few hours early to set up and start painting the background. He will take photos of the special moment you have agreed upon and continue painting during the event for guests to enjoy, typically from 4-8 hours.
The Hand Off: The painting will be complete or nearly completed by the end of the event. If additional studio work is needed, JP will schedule a pickup or delivery of the completed painting within a month of the event.
How do we plan the painting together?
Once you submit your information through the questionnaire, JP will contact you and schedule a Facetime or Zoom call to talk about the scene you’d like to capture. He will gather info about your wedding’s venue, guests, and answer any questions you may have about the process. Ideally, the call is with the bride and groom, but it’s fine if a relative or a wedding planner is handling these details.
How far will you travel?
JP is based in Sacramento, California, but he travels throughout the region. If you search for “Wedding painter near me,” you’ve come to the right place. Travel costs to events within 50 miles of Sacramento are included. Events up to 4 hours away will accrue 50 cents per additional mile. Events further than a 4-hour drive may require round trip airfare and 1-2 nights hotel accommodation, and any rideshare costs. Here are some examples:
Napa: $20 (140 miles roundtrip – 100 miles covered = 40 x .50 per mile)
South Lake Tahoe: $50 (200 miles roundtrip – 100 miles covered = 100 x .50 per mile)
Monterey: $145 (390 miles roundtrip – 100 miles covered = 290 x .50 per mile)
What kind of paint is used?
JP paints with fast-drying alkyd oil paints on artist quality canvas. All of the materials are high quality and will stand the test of time. Keep your painting out of direct sunlight to maintain its color.
Does the painting come framed?
It’s your choice. JP worked in a frame shop and has framing materials. If you would like him to frame your painting, he can give you a quote, depending on what you want. He paints in standard sizes (18 x 24 and 22 x 28), which makes it easy to find available frames at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or a local frame shop.
